Video Games: Right for YOUR Child?

Age is not a factor in choosing a video game system for a child, and yet most parents tend to look at the 'suggested age' on products. While some people may argue that a new PS3 is suitable for teens, it may or may not be.
Individually
Parents should take a long look at their child before choosing a game system. There are a lot of factors to consider. How sensitive is your child to certain things like violence in games?
Some children understand that a game is a game, while others take games a step ahead and begin to mimic themes into life.
Somehow video games can turn into reality for children as they begin to relate real life experiences to the games.
Making the Choice
Parents should take a look at the games available for a particular system before making the purchase. My children are between the ages of 5 and 8, but we found that the Nintendo GameCube is more suitable offering a variety of games for our children.
They are able to play classic non-violent games that we choose, and they love it!
We've also purchased several plug-n-play games that connect directly to the television, some use batteries which costs but parents can often purchase an adapter to allow the game to be plugged into an electrical outlet to save money.
Think of what you want your child to be exposed to, what he or she can handle, the cost of the games, and always monitor the time your child spends playing games.
Research has shown that good ole fashioned playing outdoors is more beneficial than being cooped up playing video games, but video games are still fun that can be enjoyed ... the right way.
